New discoveries

Cloudland, a Fortitude Valley reincarnation of one of Brisbane’s historic dance halls

Tippler’s Tap, a brewpub in Newstead offering dozens of beer, including a selection from Oregon’s Rogue Brewery

Kuan Yin, vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown

Audrey’s Music Shop, providing a wide selection of stringed instruments in a tiny Queenslander house just off Boundary St.

watering holes: The End, Plough Inn, Lock n Load

farmers’ markets: West End, Boggo Road

public spaces: Kurlipa Bridge, South Bank Parklands, Kangaroo Point cliffs

people watching: Fortitude Valley after midnight (no contest)

late night dining: Pancake Manor

bookstore: Avid Reader

reading spot: Queensland State Library

museum: Gallery of Modern Art (also my favorite theater)

performance space/venue: Brisbane Powerhouse

band: Zvonksy

busker: the mandolin player near the Courier-Mail Piazza

bikeways/bike boulevards: Brisbane Corso, Boondall Wetlands, Bicentennial Bikeway
