Last Wednesday, I gave a presentation to the Rotary Club of Ashgrove/The Gap. One of the members, Shaughn Forbes, has helped me set up more than a dozen meetings with clubs in District 9600.
I spoke on the connection between transportation policy and the rising obesity epidemic. In the Q&A session, many of the Rotarian’s expressed a need for more bicycle and pedestrian facilities, both as a drivers wanting to avoid collisions with other road users and as individuals wanting to get more exercise.
I’ve been impressed Brisbane City Council’s investment in bicycle and pedestrian projects. Although retrofitting an urban area is never easy, Brisbane has made admirable progress in the past five years.
