Speaking at both Pine Rivers Daybreak and Toowong clubs have been highlights of my time in Brisbane so far. Along with the other three clubs I’ve spoken to, these clubs foster a fun, welcoming environment. They clearly value international perspectives and enjoy the fellowship that each meeting brings. I feel very at home here.
The Pine Rivers Daybreak Rotary welcomed me Tuesday morning. Since the club is north of town and CityCycle isn’t quite as relevant, I focused on broader transportation issues. Seath Holswich, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pine Rivers, offered to pass my research to the Transport Minister when I’ve finished.
My research was the topic of the Wednesday night speech to the Toowong Club. The club has a bike share station just outside their meeting space and the Toowong neighborhood hosts some of the most popular bike share stations in the system. Perhaps this is why many of the members had a favorable view of CityCycle despite the program’s slow start and negative media attention.
